Client background
Identifying details changed for privacy. A British Columbia resident had convictions in BC and Alberta - one summary, one indictable. The client needed record clearance for employment relocation.
The challenge
Multi-jurisdiction records require Proof of Conviction from each court and police checks from every recent address. Waiting periods differed by offence type. The client was uncertain which convictions could be included in a single application.
Our approach
We obtained the RCMP criminal record first to establish the authoritative list of convictions. Court documents were retrieved from both provinces. Eligibility was calculated per offence, and the application was structured to include all eligible convictions in one submission.
Outcome
The package was accepted for processing without return for missing documents. The client received clear timeline expectations at each stage.
Key lessons
- RCMP record is the source of truth for all convictions
- Multi-province cases need coordinated retrieval
- Free eligibility review prevents filing with ineligible offences included
